In the northwestern region of the U.S., and seated on the Pacific Ocean with Washington, Idaho, California, and Nevada at its borders, is the state of Oregon. Oregon is best known for its mountains and majestic scenery, but has also gained notoriety for its arts and music. Admitted as the 33rd state in 1859 after the Lewis and Clark exploration of the territory in 1805, Oregon was considered the fur trade capital of the west. Portland, the largest city in Oregon, receives visitors from across the country that come to enjoy its rich history and culture.
