Oklahoma was part of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. There were six land runs from 1889 to 1895. Settlers came to get rich from the oil fields in cities like Tulsa, Ponca City, Bartlesville, and Oklahoma City. Oklahoma is the third largest gas producing state in the nation. Some famous people from Oklahoma include Toby Keith, Reba McEntire, and the All American Rejects. Oklahoma is coldest in January and warmest in July.
