Missouri

The 24th state in the USA, admitted on August 10, 1821.

Missouri can simply be referred to as the "state in the middle." Historically, it was a border state sandwiched between the Confederacy and the Union. Now, the state is sandwiched between the Eastern and Western United States. Kansas City is known as the "western-most Eastern City," while St. Louis calls itself the "eastern-most Western city." And, thanks to the United States Census Bureau, Phelps County has found celebrity as the mean center of United States population.
