The 34th state in the USA, admitted on January 29, 1861.

Kansas territory was first inhabited by Native Americans and was purchased by the United States as part of the Louisiana Purchase. Though falsely rumored to be the flattest state in the union, Kansas's eastern region can be quite hilly. Many rivers flow through the state's landscape and it is home to several national historic sites and trails. Some of Kansas' major industries are agriculture, oil and gas production and aerospace manufacturing. The state's capital of Topeka was the origin of the historic U.S. Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education. Other notable cities are Wichita, the state's largest city, and the infamous Old West frontier town Dodge City.
