With 50 mountains that peak over 10,000 feet there is no shortage of outdoor activities in Idaho. Skiing, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing to name a few, and around 70 percent of Idaho is public lands. "Rockhounding" is also a popular pastime. Idaho is famous for its potatoes. About a third of all dehydrated potatoes eaten by 10 million GI's in World War II were produced in J.R. Simplot's plant in Caldwell, Idaho. Idaho continues to be the #1 national producer of potatoes and are also ranked highly in the production of austrian winter peas, trout and lentils.
